So it came as a shock when dozens of women came forward to accuse him of sexual misconduct. Cosby faces charges of rape, drug use assault and sexual assault. The earliest incidents are said to have occurred in the mid-1960s and continued until 2008.
Cosby has consistently denied any allegations of wrongdoing and has maintained his innocence. But in 2018, the entertainer was found guilty of three counts of aggravated indecency against a Toronto woman. As a result, he was sentenced to three to 10 years in state prison and ordered to pay a $25,000 fine and court costs.
Cosby appealed the verdict in 2019. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court then upheld the verdict and approved the appeal.

Bill Cosby is serving time in Pennsylvania
On the day Cosby was sentenced, he was housed at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Eagleville, Pennsylvania.Hours later, he was transferred to the Phoenix State Correctional Facility, or SCI Phoenix In a college town. The maximum security facility is managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
SCI Phoenix is a state-of-the-art prison that only opened a few months before Cosby’s arrival. The facility houses nearly 4,000 inmates and offers educational and vocational programs, self-improvement classes, sex offender therapy, recreational programs, and job opportunities in garment factories, shoe factories, and laundries.
When American Dad arrived, he was provided with basic necessities such as a prison-issued uniform, boots, toiletries, sheets and towels. He was placed in a single cell near the infirmary, which is usually what they do for prisoners who are serving life sentences.
The air-conditioned single cell was furnished with a small metal bed, a metal closet, a metal table with a bolt-on stool, and a small metal toilet attached to a small sink. After a while, Cosby was allowed to buy electronics, clothes, food and other items from the commissary.
“We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety and general welfare of Mr. Cosby at our institution,” Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Secretary John Wetzel said in a statement at the time.
“The long-term goal is to get him in the general population to receive the programming he will need during his incarceration.”
What was Bill Cosby’s day-to-day life like in prison?
While in prison, Cosby was allowed phone calls and visitation. He also has access to the gym and library. As part of his sentence, he is also required to undergo lifetime mandatory sex offender counseling, part of which he is completing in prison.

For those who think Cosby gets special treatment in jail because of his celebrity, the DOC press secretary says that’s not the case.
“The Correctional Service has had high-profile inmates before, and I’m sure we’ll have them again, so it’s not that unusual. He’s going to be treated like any other inmate,” DOC press secretary Amy Worden told CNN.
Bill Cosby is like a ‘father figure’ to other prisoners
In 2019, Cosby said in an interview from prison that he called his small cell at SCI Phoenix his “penthouse.” He also revealed that he spent a lot of time talking to fellow inmates as part of Mann Up, a prison reform programme.
The Mann Up program is designed to encourage and empower African American men who strive for respect and dignity and put family first.
“I’m not part of the Mann Up Society, but it’s an honor to come in and speak,” Cosby said. “I never want them to bully me. It’s a great honor.”
“I’m not a psychiatrist, I’m not a psychologist. I’m an educator and I’m looking forward to talking to this group of about 400 people. Some of the people here are in their 70s, 50s, 40s, 30s and 20s. I tell them what I know and how I feel.”
According to Cosby’s spokesman, Andrew Wyatt, the 82-year-old actor is making the most of his time in prison and is doing “very well.”
Speaking of Mann’s plan, Wyatt said, “These guys are going to be released on parole in a few months, and he (Cosby) is talking to these guys because a lot of them are in jail. … .They were afraid to go back into (their) community. They saw him as their father. To them, he was America’s father.”
Wyatt added that Cosby spoke one-on-one with the inmates, usually while he was eating.
“He was very popular,” Wyatt said. “Some of them came up to him and just wanted to talk, wanted to talk about all kinds of things, like cosby show and (other celebrities). “
